About
The Minimalist Microblog Built from Nostalgia
Who is Gallic Baka?
A humble fellow building a tiny, defiantly human corner of the Net.
Gallic, as in Gaul, is inspired by a famous Franco-Belgian comic series that I grew up loving. Baka as in (馬鹿 or バカ) meaning an idiot or fool. Likely because I'm not an ancient history buff nor do I claim an expert in coding stuff.
Why making these websites?
The Internet has become rather too restrictive and commodified as of recent. The minimalist microblog site is a personal project created for the freedom of self-expression, or at least, my own. Was this account me?
Here are my recent posts, while this is my very first post!

Something About This Microblog [PINNED]
This minimalist microblog was built from scratch using VSCodium without any javascript files. While my other project has implemented some javascript, none was used in this project. As of writing this, there's only one html and one css file and a logo.png.
Think of it as a labour of love.
I'm thinking of broadening my skill by dabbling into using Next.js and React for cool webdevelopment tricks. Although, none would apply in the Gallic Baka Microblog nor the upcoming Bibliotheca.
One can tell I'm only starting interested in web development recently, and maybe some day, homelabbing. ☻

The very first beta reader admitted the story, while rough around the edges, is funny on its own rights. And a machine told me it's contrasting from the original vibe of the series, but that's
how it is when Japanifying a western story. Granted, there had been a Ben-Hur manga adaptation sometime ago, but couldn't grab a physical copy at the time.
Has there been a Japanified Asterix aside from the Konami arcade game? Moe Asterix-chan is a cursed concept, yet calls to me like the Green Goblin's mask.

Slow but Steady # 1
The Ellipsus project has taken up to 20k word count as of this post since last month. Very slow for its pace but considering it's being edited in real time as well... 5th Chapter and nearly halfway done at that.
It's silly for its concept, turning the Asterix story into a shounen-leaning romcom satire. But hey, it did started out as satire back in the early 2020s (2022 I think).
Not to mention, ProWritingAid's hosting a Novel November event. I'm unsure anyone in the Gallic Baka group would be able to finish a 50k word novel in a month--not me at least.
I've got mixed feedback upon writing this.
Funny things came out of Nintenfans
Watched a YouTube video talking about Nintendo fans of yore. Funny bunch, they are. There's some that inserted unneeded political stances into their hobby. And as such, I should surge prevent doing this to any of Gallic Baka project.
Anyway, I found out the origins of this funny GIF. It's from a Zelda fan film... made to troll a passionate 19 year old.

Fan zines (Mine in Particular)
I'm going to write my first fan zine. Frankly, never have I written articles before in the spirit of traditional magazines. Digital zine is a foreign territory for me. I'd look up some examples first before I could create a proper book template.
Subject matter would be the introduction of the Asterix series, mostly to Anglophones outside of this geekdom, where I would compare him to the likes of Mario and Popeye and why he's so lovable.

Rambling of the Day
Didn't think I could finish my project in one afternoon. Although, the crook of the manner, would be the assignment I missed last week.
Aside from that, I'm delving into my other personal projects. My Ellipsus project starts out strong, nearly finishing my 3rd Chapter. Who knew editing on-the-go would feel great? It's already on 5k words with about ~30k characters and 25m reading time according to Ellipsus.
I still have yet to catch up with the priority project. As for the Bibliotheca website, I'd the development on hold.

What a chaotic week. I didn't take myself as scatterbrained but it had been buggering me throughout. Lost my stuff. I reckoned through some brain damage when a ball hit me in the head. It's worrying. I missed this week's assignment as well, and I needt to work on it the next day. Great.
Expecting the entire weekend either mulling over the missed assignment or procrastinate the hell out. I haven't done any writing this week as much.

I'm considering a do-over for the website project that houses my creative works and any topic revolving the theme. Playing pretend being a 90s website won't do any good. I should went with 800px wide than the usual tiny screen just because it fit well from my Linux monitor.

Listening to Writing Tips
I'm listening to a youtube channel giving tips on how to write fiction. One covered on spotting an A.I. generated book. Having to tinker with prompts with ChatGPT and various LLM, I can sniff an A.I. writing a mile away. Would it be kind of cheating to use A.I. translation to get some Latin sentence? Maybe. I haven't really brushed up my Latin skills in like forever. Looking back, my first Chapter YEARNS for proofreading and editing.
My hand is tied this week considering I missed a deadline last week. I'm still at the beginning of the third chapter, with having to meet Caliguliminix soon.

Zoomers Ruined the Old Internet?
I found a peculiar blog article authored by "rave + wirefaux" (Archive) expressing their grievances on the lost Internet era. It seems likely that they have never experienced that era, based on the tone of their writing. They lament the superficiality with which others approach the topic.
While I agree with some points and sympathize with the authors, I wouldn't say the Internet was as "decentralized" as one might think. Yahoo was the Google of the early 2000s, along with other platforms like Lycos and AltaVista--the precursors to the corporate overreach and centralization we see today. I remember XMPP, but I doubt the average Joe without a tech background was interested in self-hosting, even with public bridges available.

I'm one that's not as involved in those so-called "fandom(s)" of which some might accuse me of being a recluse. I use other pseudonyms per differing interests, but with this one I'm most certainly don't talk about outside my website. I expected people in their 50s to be fanboys of my particular niche, although with constant adaptation of the source material, I reckon it would attract younger audience outside France.
In all honesty, it feels good to find ones niche quietly and be content with it. People shouldn't be obligated to join a "fandom" just to truly engage in their interests. Enjoyment does not require community participation.
Despite this rambling, I'd still consider publishing my work at AO3, but that's where it ends there. My "fandom" engagement would be at minimal or, at best, brief discussions.

Not much, just added a little bit because I succumb to my drowziness. I have other projects ahead of me and I ought to have those finish before I get back to my Ellipsus writing projects.
The stuff added is how the two titular characters sound close to the original source material while adding a bit of this story's flair.

I finally am done with the first chapter of a writing project! Although, it's not finalized with a humble word count of ~4,400 words (25k characters) with the estimated reading time of 22 minutes. Mostly, because I am not content with the introduction and interaction of the two protagonists for now. And it could be torturous for the reader, depending if they put themselves in the second protagonist's shoes. I want to write more in this chapter but I ought to break it and shift the focus from the second protag's POV to the main heroine's.

I guess I had the most vanilla idea compared to my other Asterix fics including "Et Yamato" or "Et Serica", with the latter being a rewrite or reimagine of the Middle Kingdom, a live action original, just with more Stephen Chow elements. While it makes sense Asterix was written to remain a bachelor, it hurts to see having his love unrequited with the princess at the end.

I just forgot where--there's a 33rd(?) book published--I perhaps misremember the album number--where explains Obelix's origin story of falling into the cauldron. It could be where the prologue episode was based on. It's written in '88 if the signature says it all, by Uderzo himself. Although, my point still stands.

While I didn't add much to advance the story's chapter last night, I at least almost finished with the first chapter which was a repurposed and refined version from the older 2020 drafts and adapted them from my private ren'py project.
Hard to find balance where the main protagonists would be--justifiably--verbally abusing the second protagonist a la Nagatoro style that tip-toes between the lines of fun and teasing to just outright cruel and crude.
I think my writing is still on the cruder side bordering on OOC even if it's an Alternative Universe. I don't want to make it seemed TOO feminist, as someone described my draft, it misses the point and I saved that for the other album stories.
Around 3700~ words. Not much by a large margin but a lot has been cut out and rewritten because of the clunky dialogue exchange.

By Jove, something about "Origin stories" really ticked me off. Happened with the cancelled 2012 Popeye film, although stayed because it's nearly a lost media full-length animatic, and the Netflix's Asterix mini-series. Origin Stories, especially done by future writer posthumous, de-mystify the backstories of my favourite heroes.
Although, this is added in the Birthday omnibus, knowing this may have been overwriting or retconning some mentions of the titular Gauls' detail likely prior to 1999. I don't like how they (the titular duo) share the same birthday and likely the same year. What are they, twins? Sounds like they're ripping off another mustachoed icon who share similar birthdays because, well, they're twins!

There's a funny scene or clip where she splashes an unknown concoction towards the camera. Acid perhaps. It reminded me of Panoramix of sort. Would he be some crazy basrard in his youth before he mellowed out? Too bad Mr. Goscinny and Mr. Uderzo didn't explore that much about the venerable druid. But, I can imagine a weird scenario where he is this wild mad scientist in the days of yore, dousing his rival in (likely acid). Also, Agnes Tachyon's VA voiced Nagatoro too. Pretty neat.
